Crux Puzzles

Box arrived in good time and good condition. There were a number of steps to solve the puzzle and open the box so we didn’t get it all at once. The size is great for keeping small items in. Looks lovely.

Bought this for my puzzle mad granddaughter for her birthday. I put a surprise inside and have not given her any clues but reassured her when she found a moving piece that she was on the right track. Excellent value

I have ordered a few things from Crux over the last few years. Everything has been as expected and delivered quickly. I sent this puzzle to a blind friend for Christmas. He enjoyed figuring it out. These puzzles are also great because you can do them and pass them on to someone else

....I could not solve this but my 17 year old niece did through mathematical formula!! She also re assembled it.

It is actually 4.5 stars, rather than 5. But in the spirit of festive generosity I am rounding it up instead of down.
The puzzle arrived quickly, it is compact and looks good, both as packaged and the puzzle itself. There was indeed an interior compartment for small gift objects (supposedly jewellery) that I could access before putting the puzzle underneath the xmas tree, but I had to try to open it more than once as the mechanism is very finicky, The compartment is really tiny - I had to remove the packaging and squeeze the jewellery very tight in there.
Our adolescents were intrigued by the puzzle box, said it was addictive but also frustrating and spent several days trying to solve it - ultimately successfully. (a good investment then given it required more than just 30 minutes!)
Frustration is caused by the fact that the required logic is “invented” and it necessitates a great deal of imagination to come up with ideas how to proceed (very similar to full-sized escape rooms based on fictional stories). So be ready to employ the trial and error approach and check for hints to confirm you are on the right track because ex-ante it cannot be clear what will be instrumental. Be prepared that the first correct attempt at moving forward at nearly every stage may fail - and you won’t know at that point if this is because that was not the correct approach or because you were 1 millimetre off somewhere and that is why the mechanism did not react and you simply had to re-try.
I am relieved that the jewellery I put inside was not damaged.

I gave this to my 11 year old who worked it out in about half an hour. His older brother (15) also got it fairly quickly - about 15 mins. Their father and grandfather couldn't do it. So I think it all depends on the type of brain you have, rather than age.
It is a lovely puzzle. Beautifully made, the joins where the box comes apart are almost invisible, two secret compartments make it all the more enjoyable. I put a note in the first saying "keep going" and then a small gift in the second.
Absolutely no quality issues (mentioned by another reviewer).
I would highly recommend this puzzle and I plan to buy it for a gift again.
